Diwakar Vikram Singh

Biography

I'm interested in solving challenging problems in computer vision using deep learning. So far in my masters, I've mostly focused on different subfields of computer vision, such as semantic image segmentation, transfer learning, image classification, generative adversarial networks, 3D reconstruction, SLAM, etc. I want to contribute to technically and philosophically challenging long term projects. My perspective and skills would best contribute to a holistic approach to building or understanding AI that treats artifacts and understanding as primary goals.

Currently, I'm working with Prof. Frank Dellaert on a new project from Google Brain, SwiftFusion with active participation from full-time Googlers. It is built on Swift for TensorFlow (s4tf) which brought differentiable functions as a first- class citizen in the Swift language, which makes it unique. Before that, I worked in Intelligent Vision and Automation Laboratory (IVALab) under the supervision of Dr. Patricio Vela. During my time there, I worked on one of the most fundamental problems in robotics, the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) problem, to make robots intelligent in navigating the environment.

When I'm not occupied with my academic endeavors, I like to learn about the mysteries of our universe. One particular area which intrigues me a lot is how human civilization has to become multi-planetary species for their survival in the future. The idea of harnessing the sun energy using the Dyson sphere and the spinning black hole rotational energy using the Penrose process and/or Superradiance Scattering intrigue me a lot. Additionally, I also like to travel and explore new places on our home planet. Currently, I'm also learning astrophotography in my free time.
